Exclusive Interview with Our CEO: Vision for the Future

Amir

Since stepping into the role of CEO in 2022, Amir Sabetian has been a driving force behind Squeeze In’s continued growth and innovation. In this interview, Amir shares his vision for the future of the brand, discussing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. From expanding our footprint to embracing new technology trends, Amir’s leadership is steering Squeeze In toward an exciting and dynamic future.

1. What sets Squeeze In apart from other breakfast and brunch restaurants?
Guest Perspective: Squeeze In is renowned for its vibrant, high-energy, welcoming atmosphere, generous portions, and unique, high-quality menu offerings. Our commitment to creating a memorable dining experience, combined with our signature dishes and exceptional service, truly sets us apart from the competition.

Business Perspective: Squeeze In operates as a high-volume, single-shift restaurant concept. Our buildout costs are half those of national chains like IHOP, our average hourly sales are double, and our operations are streamlined for maximum efficiency and replication. Additionally, we boast double-digit alcohol sales for breakfast without the need to hire a bartender.

2. How do you maintain the quality and consistency of your menu across all locations?
We maintain quality and consistency through comprehensive training programs for our staff, standardized recipes, and regular quality checks. Each location receives detailed guidelines and support to ensure they meet our high standards. Additionally, we partner with a Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) to oversee our distribution system, monitoring and managing orders and inventory. Most importantly, our leadership team spends significant time in the stores, ensuring firsthand oversight and engagement.

3. What is your vision for the future of Squeeze In?
My vision for Squeeze In is to expand our footprint while staying true to our core values of quality, creativity, and community. We aim to become a household name in the breakfast and brunch space, known as the home of the ‘best omelettes on the planet,’ our unique mimosas, and exceptional service. We plan to achieve this through strategic franchising and continual innovation in our technology, menu, and guest experience.

4. How do you see the restaurant industry evolving, and how is Squeeze In preparing for those changes?
The restaurant industry is increasingly moving towards technology, digital integration, and personalized dining experiences. Squeeze In is preparing for these changes by investing in advanced technology and focusing on guest feedback to tailor our offerings. We have enhanced our digital systems, are continually improving our operational services, and are integrating sustainable practices to meet the evolving demands of changing trends.

5. How does Squeeze In stay ahead of industry trends and innovations?
We stay ahead by continually researching and experimenting with new ideas. Our team attends industry conferences, engages with food trend reports, and collaborates with culinary experts. We also listen closely to our guests’ preferences and feedback, which helps us innovate and adapt quickly. Our commitment to continuous improvement keeps us at the forefront of the industry.

6. What accomplishments are you most proud of during your time as CEO?
I’m most proud of the positive culture we’ve maintained, leading to extremely low turnover and stability over the past two years, especially during a rather erratic time for the industry. Additionally, I’m proud of our community engagement initiatives and our efforts to support local charities, which reflect our commitment to giving back and building strong community ties.

7. What is your favorite dish on the Squeeze In menu and why?
My favorite dish is the “Racy Tracy” omelette. It’s a perfect blend of flavors with avocado, mushrooms, and bacon, all topped with melted Jack cheese. This dish embodies our commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients and creative, satisfying flavors.

8. What motivated you to become the CEO of Squeeze In?
I have been working in the restaurant industry since the age of 14. The career opportunities presented themselves in my 20s, and I have been fortunate to grow from a cook to various leadership roles, culminating in the CEO position. Squeeze In’s unique culture and commitment to people resonated with me. I saw an opportunity to contribute to our growth and help bring this distinctive brand to more communities by introducing proven industry best practices without changing an already popular and highly respected brand.

9. Can you share a memorable story or experience from your time at Squeeze In that embodies the company’s culture?
One of my very first experiences were the day we moved from SoCal to Reno on New Year’s Eve 2021. It had snowed, and one of the owners texted to say they had shoveled our driveway in anticipation of our arrival. That’s the brand culture in action and straight from the top. (Not to mention, we were not experienced with snow, and no one had ever shoveled our driveway before).

10. What initiatives does Squeeze In have in place to support and develop its associates?
We have several initiatives, including comprehensive training programs, leadership development, and regular performance reviews with personalized feedback. We offer opportunities for career advancement within the company and provide support for continuing professional growth. Our goal is to empower our associates and help them succeed both personally and professionally.

11. What do you hope guests take away from their experience at Squeeze In?
I hope our guests leave with a sense of joy and satisfaction, feeling that they’ve experienced something special. We want them to remember the delicious food, friendly service, and welcoming atmosphere. Our aim is for every guest to feel like being a part of Squeeze In and look forward to their next visit.

12. Where do you see Squeeze In in the next five to ten years?
In the next five to ten years, I envision Squeeze In expanding to new markets through strategic franchising while maintaining our commitment to quality and community. We aim to be a leading breakfast and brunch brand nationwide, known for our innovative menu and exceptional guest experience. If you are interested in joining our franchise family and being part of this exciting journey, we’d love to hear from you.

As we look ahead to the future, it’s clear that Squeeze In is on a remarkable journey of growth and innovation, all while staying true to its core values. Under Amir Sabetian’s leadership, the brand is poised to continue making its mark in the breakfast and brunch space, offering guests an exceptional dining experience that is both memorable and unique. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a new guest, Squeeze In invites you to be part of this exciting chapter. With ambitious plans for expansion and a commitment to continuous improvement, the future of Squeeze In is brighter than ever.
